About Jean Lopez
Jean Lopez, USA Taekwondo's 2005 Coach of the Year winner helped guide the American team to its most successful world championships in U.S. history in 2005. In addition to serving as a head coach for the Senior National Team at the World Championships in Madrid, he was also a head coach of the World University Games in Izmir, Turkey, and filled the role of Mentor Coach for the 2005 Junior National Team.
Lopez helped guide the U.S. to 2nd place overall at the World Championships and 5th place overall at the World University Games. He personally coached five athletes on the various National Teams in 2005, three of whom won World Championships titles.
Jean was promoted to olympic team head coach in 2004. At just 30 years of age, Jean was the youngest head coach of the entire 2004 U.S. Olympic Team. Jean, the 1995 World Taekwondo Championships silver medalist, coached the 2004 U.S. Olympic Taekwondo Team to two medals in Athens as Nia Abdallah (Houston, Texas/Colorado Springs, Colo.) captured the silver medal in the women’s Olympic featherweight division.
Lopez’ dossier also includes head coaching stints at the 2004 Pan American
Taekwondo Championships, 2003 World Taekwondo Championships and 2001 World Taekwondo Championships.
