Legal Restrictions on Knives

We do not sell gravity or centrifugal knives. Because legal restrictions in some states, and many of them are unsafe for the carrier as the blade tip may come out of the body of the knife and cause injury. We do sell manual and assisted openers.

The best approach to learning what is legal for you is to look at the laws of your state and locality. There are many sources on the web that have information on knife laws. These have the danger of being out of date. Here are the best that we can find.

Summary of Federal Regulations

15 USC 1242 & 1243 Band switchblades while 1244 (3) provides exemptions of the Armed forces. Section 1244 (4) provides an exemption for for persons having only one arm and for blades of three (3) inches or less.

18 USC 1716 (G) (1-4) Provides exemptions to state government and its political subdivisions.

In the USA unauthorized persons are not allowed to possess batons in CA, CO, CT, DC, MA, MI, MN, NJ, NV, NY, PA, TN, RI, and VI. So we do not ship steel batons to persons in these states. EXCEPT to persons that are permitted to have batons, billys, clubs, etc under the laws of the their states or countries. Please fill out our Baton Purchase Form and follow the directions on the form. In accord with Canadian Regulation SOR/98-462 we will not ship the Kiyoga (item #MC3406) to Canada, but we will ship other batons.

As far as we can tell possession of a baton is legal elsewhere. Carrying a baton outside of home or in a vehicle can be another matter. The baton, along with other weapons, is often restricted in and around schools, court houses, places that sell liquor, etc. And in many states municipalities have ordinances further restricting batons. And then there is "case law " where judges make their own interpretation of the laws.

We cannot export stun guns from the U.S.A. at present because the Federal government requires an export license. The U.S. Dept of Commerce, Bureau of Export Administration, issued a ruling effective September 13,2000.

In support of U.S. foreign policy to promote the observance of human rights throughout the world, the Bureau of Export Administration maintains controls on crime control items. This rule expands controls on restraint devices, such as handcuffs, and on discharge type arms, such as stun guns or shock batons.
